Location
Ku Sungula Safari Lodge is located in the Balule Big-5 Private Game Reserve, which is
incorporated in the Greater Kruger Park. This unique owner/managed lodge is
surrounded by larger Lowveld trees in an authentic bush setting.
Entrance gate is the Olifants West Gate and located on the R40, 16 km north of
Hoedspruit. From the entrance gate, it is another 6 km over well maintained gravel
roads to the lodge.
Safari
Big-5 game-drives can be booked and take about 3 hours, as well as bush walks all
done in Balule. Conducted by professional and FGASA registered field-guides, drives
are held in open game vehicles and can go off-road. Although never guaranteed Big-5
sightings are common. Birdwatching is rewarding with at least 250 species recorded in
this area. The Olifants river meanders through the game-reserve, which also has open
plains and mountain views.
Other activities
As Ku Sungula is only 25 minutes from Hoedspruit it is ideally situated to explore the
diverse attractions in this region. We offer a wide range of activities in the area such
as a full day Kruger park safari, Hot air balloon safari, boat trip on the Blyde dam or
Olifants river, visits to one of the animal projects in the area as well as wine tasting.
For adventurous travelers, we also offer trips to the Mariepskop with lunch at the
Blyde river picnic spot.
Accommodation
Ku Sungula has 4 cozy and rustic rondawels, located higher in the fenced camp and
overlooking a seasonal river. A fifth, wheelchair accessible family rondawel, sleeping 4
people, is located in the center of the camp. The rondawels all have a king size bed
and en-suite bathroom with toilet, shower, and a basin. The rondawels all have air-
conditioning, overhead fan, and coffee/tea facilities.
In 2 of the rondawels the beds have 2 single mattresses and can be made as twins. A
camping cot is available for children under 2 years old and on request an extra bed
can be placed in the rondawel.
Child policy
Children of all ages are welcome at the lodge. See our rate sheet for special rates. We
can also accommodate additional adults in some of our rooms on request. Tour-guides
can be accommodated at the children’s rate.
Facilities and services
There are open areas with comfortable chairs to sit and relax and a bar and terrace
under 2 large indigenous trees providing lots of shade.
The swimming pool overlooks the dry riverbed and a waterhole. Pool loungers and
towels are in place for comfortable relaxing.
Although meals are usually served outside on our terrace or in the boma, there is a
restaurant for the odd day when weather is not suitable for outside meals. A lounge
with coffee/tea facilities completes the lodge.
Wi-fi is available, as well as a laundry service. The rondawels are cleaned daily.
Safety and liability
We have a liability insurance and safety and emergency plans are in place.

Ku Sungula Safari Lodge, it's owners or employees will not be held responsible for any
accident, illness, injury, loss, delays or death from any cause whatsoever sustained or
suffered by any person, or theft of, or damage to any property, which might occur
during my stay/tour/excursion/Bush walk or Game drive with Ku Sungula Safari
Lodge.
My general health and physical condition enables me to partake in the activities I
choose to do and that I understand and consent with the risks that may arise out of
me undertaking those activities. I voluntary assume the risks inherent in taking part
of such activities and hereby hold harmless Ku Sungula Safari Lodge, it's owners,
Directors and Staff from any liability.
Any claims arising shall be subject to South African Law and exclusive jurisdiction of
the South African courts.
Signed by each adult in the party. Parents/guardians will sign on behalf of persons
under the age of 18.
Terms and conditions
After confirmation of your reservation a deposit of 50% of the total amount for your
stay/package is payable, within 5 working days, in order to secure a booking.
The balance of the total amount for your stay/package is payable 4 weeks before
arrival. For agents, the booking must be confirmed within the time set in the quote.
The full amount needs to be paid 4 weeks before arrival or within 5 days of
confirmation of the booking should the stay date be less than 4 weeks away.
Any additional costs incurred during your stay are payable on departure.
Please note that bank and payment levies are not included in our rate, a handling fee
may be added to your total payable amount.
Ku Sungula Safari Lodge, its owners and staff cannot be held liable for any injury or
loss to person or property encountered during your stay or in your travels to or from
the lodge.
Your stay at Ku Sungula Safari Lodge and in Balule Private Reserve is at own risk,
please read the terms and conditions at the entrance gate. Self-driving is not allowed
in Balule except for getting to the lodge and back to the gate.
By accepting our quote, you automatically accept our terms and conditions.
Cancellation Policy
This cancellation policy is subject to change. It applies in all instances.
Cancellation of your booking must be via e-mail: info@kusungula.com
If you cancel your booking the following costs will be applicable;
- Cancellation prior to paying deposit no costs
- Cancellation with more than 4 weeks notice 10% of the total quoted price is forfeit
- Cancellation with more than 2 weeks notice 50% of the total quoted price is forfeit
- Cancellation with less than 2 weeks notice 90% of the total quoted price is forfeit
After your booking has been confirmed, should you wish to change to another date,
you may do so subject to availability, costs may occur.
Tourism levy and VAT
We do not charge a separate Tourism levy.
We are not VAT registered.
Payment options accepted
Payment may be made via, Visa, MasterCard, Dinners or American Express cards, or by
bank transfer into the Ku Sungula Safari Lodge bank account, the details of which will
be provided on request.
Card acquiring and security
Card transactions will be acquired for Ku Sungula Safari Lodge via PayGate (Pty) LTD
who are the approved payment gateway for all South African Acquiring Banks. DPO
PayGate uses the strictest form of encryption, namely Secore Socket Layer 3 (SSL3)
and no Card details are stored on the website. Users may go to www.paygate.co.za to
view their security certificate and security policy.
Customer details separate from card details
Customer details will be stored by Ku Sungula Safari Lodge separately from card
details which are entered by the client on DPO PayGate’s secure site. For more detail

Merchant Outlet country and transaction currency
The merchant outlet country at the time of presenting payment options to the
cardholder is South Africa. Transaction currency is South African Rand (ZAR).
Responsibility
Ku Sungula Safari lodge takes responsibility for all aspects relating to the transaction
including sale of goods and services sold on this website, customer service and
support, dispute resolution and delivery of goods.
Variation
Ku Sungula Safari Lodge may, in its sole direction, change this agreement or any part
thereof at any time without notice.
