Ku Sungula means ‘new beginning’ in the local language of the Tsonga people, also known as the Shangaan.
That meaning is at the heart of everything we do. We want every guest to experience something new. Whether during an exciting game drive through the bush, while watching the sunrise from your rondavel or simply while sitting still and noticing how much is happening all around you.
Our lodge is all about those special moments and unexpected encounters. With wildlife, African culture and the people you meet along the way. Because a stay at Ku Sungula is not only about what you see, but especially about how you experience it. What’s not to fall in love with in South Africa? The nature, the culture, the climate and the wildlife have a way of stealing hearts. That is exactly what happened to Yolanda and Petro, the owners of Ku Sungula Safari Lodge.
Since 2008, they have travelled to Africa several times a year. During one of those trips, they discovered this special place by chance, and it completely won them over. They decided to take the leap and opened the doors of Ku Sungula Safari Lodge in 2017. A place where they could share their love for Africa with others.
Since then, Yolanda and Petro have been building a lodge together with a dedicated team, where everything revolves around personal attention, tranquillity and experience. Their daughter Anne has now joined them too, sharing the same love for Africa and adding even more to the family feeling at Ku Sungula. Everything you experience here comes from a shared passion. A passion for nature, for people and for creating a place where you can truly experience the real Africa.
